Name: Osamu Dazai Door: Door Pass - Submissive Canon: Bungo Stray Dogs Canon Point: Chapter 95/96, S5 E6/7 (When he's still in jail) Age: 22 Appearance: Osamu Dazai Appearance History: Here Basically: Dazai was a part of the Port Mafia -> brought in a few kids like him -> manipulated them (lol) -> left the Port Mafia (defected, traitor) -> Joined the ADA -> His crimes were covered up -> Works with the Detective Agency Personality: Most of Dazai's personality traits are negative, as he's a darker character deep down beneath the comedic surface. Positive Trait: Intelligence. Dazai can use his intelligence to outwit almost anyone. He uses this to his advantage. It's part of his personality because he acts like a fool most of the time, pretending to be stupid and acting foolish, but when it really matters his intelligence is what ends up pushing the agency further and allowing them to survive. This can be seen in the very first episode, where he deduces that Atsushi is the very tiger he's hunting. It's also very prevalent in the current arc, where Fyodor and Dazai are seen competing in their very own game of wits. In the manga, these two are communicating with a code of their own, that they created together just by their intelligence. Negative Trait: Manipulative. Persuasive goes hand in hand with Manipulative. He's charismatic, understands how people tick. Using that, Dazai can get almost anything he wants, or achieve a plan that he puts into place. As it goes hand in hand with Manipulative, I've put these two traits together into one negative trait: Manipulative. Dazai manipulates everyone around him. He always has a plan and is always several steps ahead of everyone else. His manipulations are present in every conversation he has with his previous underling, Akutagawa. Their whole relationship is based on Dazai's manipulations. He gave Aku a reason to be, and abused him throughout their time in the mafia together. Dazai also seems to know more than he lets on at all times, using that to manipulate everyone. He pulls the strings in the background. If he hadn't left the Mafia to help people as Oda asked of him, he'd still be pulling the strings behind the Mafia. It doesn't matter WHO he manipulates, as long as he gets to. Negative Trait: Suicidal Tendencies. [CW for talk of suicide attempts] This wouldn't be put on someone's personality sheet if it really wasn't a huge part of his character. The way we are introduced to Dazai is when he's floating down the river, after a drowning attempt. This fascination with suicide seems to be played off as comedic, but further through the anime we learn that even during his Mafia days he had these tendencies, though they were far darker and more serious than they are now. Dazai had several attempts on his own life, but somehow could never succeed. Joining the Mafia was actually a way for Dazai to try and find a reason to want to live, something to give his life meaning. He wanted to be exposed to the death, the violence, the urges that people would induldge in, to find a meaning to living. He used to describe death as a way to escape the world, instead of the comedic way he now approaches it. His personality in the Mafia was far darker than it is now. His outlook on life has changed significantly since joining the ADA. Negative Trait: Sadism/Brutality. [CW abuse] During his time as a Mafia executive, his methods of working were very cruel. He would capture people alive to torture them for information, and he used to beat his underling Akutagawa with no signs of remorse. He also didn't seem phased by the numbers of kills Kyoka had when she joined ADA -- his own kill count was triple digits. Dazai has shown that he enjoys messing with people, both in the practical joke sense and in a sadistic sense. An example of this is in Chapter 26 of the manga - Dazai planned for a car to crash into a car he was riding in with another character, Ango. He organized the car crash on purpose, to hurt Ango and to fulfill his own secret plans. Ango's airbag didn't go off, but Dazai's did, suggesting that Dazai messed with the airbags ahead of time. This was also potentially done in part for revenge. Even if it helped with his plans, he didn't need to go to those extremes to go through with them. Powers and Abilities: No Longer Human -- This ability allows Dazai to cancel out the Skill of any Skill user he touches. He can also cancel skills that he touches, if they're long ranged. This ability only works on those from the Bungo Stray Dogs universe. Inventory: Spare bandages, a bobby pin, a pair of handcuffs without the keys Samples: first and second |
